Attic insulation in Las Vegas
Blown-in and batt insulation, plus ventilation, for a valley attic.
Best Vegas Roofer is a referral service, not a roofing contractor. We connect you with independent local roofing contractors who perform the work under their own licence and insurance. We do not perform roofing work and we do not warrant or guarantee any work performed. There is no charge to be matched.
An attic in a Las Vegas summer is one of the hottest spaces most people own, and the only thing between it and your living room is insulation. In this climate insulation is not primarily about keeping heat in, it is about keeping an enormous amount of heat out through a very long cooling season.
Insulation also interacts directly with the roof. A roof leak saturates it, compressing it and destroying its performance, and poor attic ventilation cooks the roof covering from underneath. The three are one system, which is why roofing contractors frequently handle insulation work.

Signs your attic insulation is not doing its job
Most of these show up as comfort or cost problems inside the house rather than as anything visible in the attic:
- Rooms on the top floor that run noticeably hotter than the rest of the house
- Air conditioning that runs continuously through the afternoon and struggles to hold temperature
- Cooling bills that have climbed without a change in usage or rates
- Insulation visibly thin, patchy, flattened or below the level of the ceiling joists
- Darkened, stained or compacted insulation, which usually indicates past or present water intrusion
- Insulation disturbed and never reinstated after electrical, cable or air conditioning work
- Evidence of pests having nested in it
Ventilation and insulation are one conversation
Insulation slows heat moving from the attic into the house. Ventilation removes heat from the attic in the first place. Doing one without checking the other is a common and expensive half-measure.
Adding insulation while blocking soffit intake vents is a specific and frequent error: it traps heat in the attic, drives the roof covering’s temperature up from below, and shortens the life of the roof you are trying to protect.
Water damaged insulation does not recover
If a roof has leaked, the insulation below it has very likely been compromised. Wet insulation compacts, and compacted insulation does not recover its performance when it dries, because the trapped air that was doing the work has gone.
When a roof repair follows a leak, it is worth asking about the insulation underneath at the same time. It is far cheaper to address while someone is already up there.
Who actually does the work
An independent roofing contractor, working under their own Nevada licence and insurance, not Best Vegas Roofer. They inspect your roof, quote you directly, and warrant their own work. Roofing in Nevada falls under contractor licence classification C-15, Roofing and Siding, issued by the Nevada State Contractors Board. (Nevada State Contractors Board, License Classifications)
Before work starts, check them yourself. The Nevada State Contractors Board publishes a free public licence search, so you can confirm a contractor is licensed, check the classification they hold and see their licence status before any work starts. Frequently asked questions
How much insulation should a Las Vegas attic have?
It depends on the assembly and the recommended level for this climate zone, which a contractor can assess against what you actually have. The more useful question is usually whether yours is intact, at a consistent depth and unobstructed, because patchy insulation underperforms badly regardless of the rating.
Will more insulation lower my power bill?
It reduces heat transfer into the conditioned space, which reduces cooling load. How much that shows on a bill depends on your existing levels, your ducting, your windows and how you run the house. A contractor should give you a realistic picture rather than a headline number.
Do I need to remove the old insulation first?
Not always. Topping up is common where the existing material is dry, clean and undisturbed. Removal is the right call where it is water damaged, contaminated by pests or badly compacted.
Should I insulate before or after roof work?
After, generally. If the roof needs work, do that first so the attic is dry and stays dry, then address the insulation. Installing new insulation under a roof that is about to be torn off is money spent twice.
